Helping others
π‘ Did you know that helping others is good for our own wellbeing? There's lots of science and research backing this up. Doing good is good for us and you get a triple-ripple effect: if you're helping a person, they feel good, you feel good for helping them, and then there's this collective societal good.
Also helping the environment, is important right now and itβs good for our own wellbeing.
How can we help others?
It could be something very small. Acts of random kindness.
Reaching out to that person who's struggling. Being there for someone who's on low form.
Helping a colleague with a piece of work where it's not directly going to benefit you.
Volunteering is a great way to help others. Check out Matchable, where they are matching skillsets of volunteers to projects that are socially good.
Helping the environment, looking after the environment, reducing our negative impact on the environment.
Looking at how we can be helping people as part of our jobs, within the workplace, and having that wider impact.
Social Enterprise Camerados provides public living rooms spaces for people to go to connect as humans. The Director, Maff Potts, doesn't talk about mental health but actually that connection is around supporting people's mental health collectively. He talks about this concept of helping others, and how asking someone who is really struggling for a favour, and that act of giving them a bit of meaning and the opportunity to get their mind off of their own problems, has really helped them improve the challenge that they have got.
So helping others is great for our own wellbeing. So see if you can bring that into your game.
